Retina
The retina is a slender tissue layer that lines the inner back portion of the eye, situated in close proximity to the optic nerve. Its primary function is to capture the focused light from the lens, transform it into neural signals, and transmit these signals directly to the brain for visual interpretation. Within the retina, light is processed through a layer of specialized photoreceptor cells, responsible for discerning attributes such as color and light intensity. The retina then interprets the data collected by these photoreceptor cells and transmits it to the brain via the optic nerve. Due to its crucial role in vision, any damage to the retina can lead to permanent blindness. Systemic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, trauma, and various other ailments can give rise to retinal diseases, necessitating treatments such as anti-VEGF medications, laser therapies, and retina surgery.
