UVEA

Individuals with uveitis experience redness, swelling, and inflammation in their eyes, often accompanied by eye pain. While certain conditions can heighten the risk of uveitis, it frequently arises without a discernible cause. Effective treatments exist to restore lost vision and prevent further deterioration, although specific types of uveitis may recur following treatment. Left untreated, uveitis can lead to vision impairment or blindness.

Understanding Uveitis:
Uveitis is a collective term encompassing a range of conditions characterized by red eyes, eye pain, and inflammation. These conditions primarily affect the uvea, the middle layer of the eye, though they can also extend to other eye components. Without proper treatment, uveitis can result in irreversible vision loss or blindness.

Does uveitis impact both eyes?
Uveitis can manifest in one or both eyes, potentially affecting:

Retina: The innermost layer of the eye responsible for perceiving colors and light, transmitting images to the brain.
Uvea: The middle layer, comprising the iris (colored portion of the eye), choroid (membrane housing most of the eye’s blood vessels), and ciliary body (linking the iris and choroid while supplying nutrients to the eye).
Sclera: The outer white part of the eye.
